Non- Alcoholic Sangria
I am a little nervous / excited so basically that means I am feeling a bit “scited” over the start of my first series of reels on social media that I will call, Flavors of Spain. Inspired by the 2 week trip my partner and I went on last year !
This is where I create and share Spanish inspired dishes with plant-based ingredients as well as this non-alcoholic sangria which is conveniently right on time for all those celebrating dry January or who drinkin a little less this new year. This sangria is definitely something we will making over and over again in the new year because its very refreshing and its also like a little snack in a glass which we love.
What you will need
Carafe or Pitcher
Measuring Cups
Mandolin / Sharp Chef Knife
Citrus Press
Small Sauté Pan
Cutting Board
Non-Alcoholic Sangria Base
Makes 1 Quart of what I will call the "Base Sangria".
*Serving 1 cup of the "Base Sangria" per cup and filling to the top with sparking water for a total of 4 servings*
Ingredients - Base
1 1/4 cup - pomegranate juice
1 - cinnamon stick
1/4 cup - diced green apples
1/4 cup - quartered strawberries
1 lemon - sliced thin
1 lime - sliced thin
1/2 orange - cut in half slices
1 1/2 cup - grape juice
1/2 cup - orange juice
1/4 cup - lime juice
750 mL - San Pellegrino Sparkling Water ( 1 bottle to top off the sangria )
Instructions
Step 1 - Prep
There is nothing worse than going to make something and realizing you don’t have the stuff ! Take this moment to gather everything and wash the fruits.
While I have my fruit soaking I like to simmer the 1 1/2 cups of pomegranate juice with the cinnamon stick for maybe 15-20 minutes. Then take out the cinnamon stick and reserve the juice to the side to cool down a bit to use later.
Step 2 - Slice the fruits
For this amount of sangria I really only needed half an orange and then I made half slices. For the lemons and limes I decided to slice those and keep them in circles. I recommend quartering the strawberries and doing a dice on the green apples but you really could cut the fruit to your liking.
Step 3 - Make the base
It was at this moment I realized I actually didn’t have a carafe or pitcher ( lol ! ). So I used a large mason jar but honestly a pitcher is more ideal. Add in the green apples and pour over the cooled pomegranate, grape, lime and orange juice. After that add in the sliced fruits and strawberries then give it a nice stir or a good shake if using a mason jar and let it sit and mingle for 2 hours.
Step 4 - Serving
For each glass add maybe half a cup of ice and 1 cup of sangria base and pour the sparkling water to the top. Do this for each glass if enjoying all at once otherwise tuck the sangria base in the fridge to enjoy later. Keep the left over base in a air tight, food safe container for up to 5 days.
